FAQ
If I test positive, will my family be informed?
FERPA regulations prohibit us from disclosing a your personal information unless you
have filed a waiver with the registrar's office.
We recommend contacting your parent, guardian, or emergency contact directly If you
receive a positive COVID-19 test.
What happens if a faculty member contracts COVID-19?
If a faculty member tests positive for COVID-19, they may choose to conduct the class remotely during their absence or we may secure an adjunct to cover the material during the instructor’s absence. We will make every attempt to continue the course in its stated format.
If I have to isolate or quarantine due to COVID-19, when can I return to campus?
If you've been sick with respiratory symptoms, fever, or have tested positive for COVID-19, you are expected to self-isolate according to CDC guidelines. You can return to campus after the required time period, provided your symptoms have improved and you have been fever-free for 24 hours with no use of medication.
When can I come back to campus after I’ve tested negative?
You may return in the timeframe recommended by your healthcare provider.
How will I continue my coursework if I have to quarantine or isolate due to COVID19?
If you miss any class due to COVID-19 pandemic related illness and/or quarantine reasons, you will not be penalized for the absence; however, you are accountable for all required coursework. Communicate directly with your instructors regarding assignments or missed coursework during your absence.
If there's an increase of COVID-19 cases on campus, will my classes be cancelled?
SCC has alternative plans for classes to continue if COVID-19 cases increase.
Will we get tuition refunds if the course delivery format moves 100% online?
We will continually monitor the campus environment with regard to health and safety of our campus community. Should an increase in COVID-19 activity demand that we move our course delivery mode to online, our standard tuition/fees refund policies will remain in effect. We give 100% refunds for any class(es) dropped within the first 10 days of the respective academic term (NOTE: The refund period is prorated for any course less than 16 weeks). No refunds will be facilitated beyond the standard 100% refund period for each course, respectively.
Will my financial aid be impacted if my course moves to an online format?
If we are required to move face-to-face classes online, your financial aid will not be impacted. Contact the Financial Aid office for details at (319) 208-5014.
I am experiencing financial hardship because of COVID-19. Does SCC offer any support?
Yes, we continue to accept applications for CARES Act grants. Email vpsa@scciowa.edu to see if you’re eligible.
If face-to-face classes are moved entirely online and I encounter challenges with completing the course in an online format, what are my options?
We recognize that changes in instructional delivery may cause challenges for our student population. Therefore, should an increase in COVID-19 activity demand that we move our course delivery mode online, decisions will be made and communicated at that time regarding grading options and course completion (i.e., incomplete grade = extended time to complete coursework beyond the scheduled end of term). Remember to check your SCC email regularly to learn of any changes.
