Using
LCD Projectors
LCD projectors are useful for
displaying images from a computer to a projection screen. LCD
projectors can be used to display video tapes or DVDs on large screens.
Some classrooms have ceiling-mounted projectors. The Multimedia Center
has LCD projectors available for checkout.
For more information about LCD
projectors contact Bruce Huddleson at 208-5080 or Mary Smith at 208-5081.

Connecting LCD Projectors to Laptop
- Set up laptop within 5 feet of
LCD projector.
- Remove projector from bag and
set on stable, level platform. This platform should be at least 12 feet
from the projection screen.
- Make sure both the laptop and
projector are turned off. Notice that the lights on both machines are
off.
- Connect VGA cable to back of
laptop and to "computer in" port on projectors. The cable only connects
one way. Don't force the connection. On the cable notice that one edge
is longer than the other edge. Notice there are 15 pins.
- Connect power cable to LCD
projectors.
- Turn on LCD projector. Press
and hold down the "on" button on the projector or on the remote
control. Listen for the fan running on the projector and notice the
lights that are lit on top of the projector.
- If
you need assistance setting up or operating projector please let us
know how we can be of assistance.

Tips
- Practice your presentation
using the exact equipment (computer, projector, software) that you will
use during your presentation. Become comfortable with setting up the
projector; connecting it to the computer or VCR/DVD; and using the
controls on the projector and the remote. If you can do this with your
eyes closed you will be well prepared.
- Have a backup plan in case the
technology is uncooperative. Print out slides from presentation,
present notes using overhead projector or chalkboard, or in extreme
cases send students home early (most will not complain too much).
- Super Secret: When
using a laptop computer to display the image from the computer through
the LCD projector on the computer locate a button labeled "CRT/LCD".
The "CRT/LCD" button is normally in the top row ( on the function
keys). Hold down the "FN" key and press the "CRT/LCD" button. The
computer's image should appear through the projector.
- Turn on projector before
turning on computer. If the projector is turned off after the computer
is turned on, video from the computer could be messed up. Solution:
Leave projector turned on and restart computer.
- Position projector a minimum
of 12 feet from the screen. If the projector is positioned too close to
the screen the light from the projector will "wash out" the image on
the screen.
- Use the "black screen" feature
on the projector to switch your audience's attention to the speaker.
The "black screen" feature might be on the remote control or a button
on projector.
- Disclaimer: In most
cases turning lights off or closing curtains is necessary for an
adequate image. Until every classroom is designed for all media
contingencies good enough will have to be good enough.
- All
of us in the Multimedia Center are available for assistance setting up
and operating the equipment.
