Paper 2 Assignment Sheet

 Narration Essay

(Personal Narrative: Self as Story)

Write a 1-2 page Personal Narrative about any single event or experience in your life.  The bulk of the story must take place in as short of a time as possible (preferably a single day).  The story should consist of an initial premise (the base event) and a counter-event that interrupts the balance of the premise.  Be sure to use specific detail--including people involved (if any), time (when the event took place), and place (setting).  Work to entertain--make the reader want to keep reading (a series of events in  itself is boring)

Remember that the best writing is honest writing.  Get your ideas out first!  Worry about editing later.

Things to Consider:

  • Dialogue.
  • Appeal to all five senses.
  • Precise words that clearly express your meaning.
  • Delete unnecessary words.
  • Contact me for help.

Requirements:

  • Bring a completed rough draft to class on Monday (6/13/05).  We will be peer-editing them in class.

  • Hand in your final draft on Monday (6/20/05).
  • Paper will not be accepted without peer-editing and process writing (and will therefore be considered late).
